The
Welding
academy
Our Welding Academy is where future talent takes shape.
Based at our home in the historic Armstrong Works, The Welding Academy provides hands-on training in a live engineering environment, combining classroom learning with real-world experience.
Accredited by EAL, it equips apprentices and employees with industry-recognised qualifications and the technical excellence that defines British manufacturing.

projects
wellbeing benches
A team of our apprentices completed a project aimed at enhancing our employee welfare area outside.
The team demonstrated great initiative by using recycled materials sourced from across our site to build the benches. This included recycled metal for the bench backs, spare pallets for the wooden seating and surplus metal tubing for the frames.
primary school planters
As part of their induction programme, our 2024 apprentice cohort took on a hands-on project during their first week by constructing wooden planter boxes designed to strengthen teamwork, communication and practical project skills.
We donated these planters to a local school in the North East to support the development of their vegetable and plant garden. It’s been fantastic to see the school community making the most of the recent warm weather, putting the planters to good use by planting flowers.
a day in the life of...
Our Welding Apprentices spend a significant portion of their time in the Academy, each benefiting from a dedicated, fully equipped welding bay to support hands-on learning. Learn more about a typical day of our welding apprentices in our case study…
